I can't believe what my family has just done. THEY'VE BOUGHT A SPANKING NEW JACK RUSSELL TERRIER! It's a dog (or puppy), if you're not a fan of the doggy-club. It's a female, and her name is tentatively 'Tammy'. It's a really lame name, I know, but at least it's not common. I'm still thinking of names to give her since she hasn't the slightest idea that she's supposed to respond to 'Tammy' yet... some names my brother and some other friends of mine have come up with include 'yammy' (?!), zippy, gummy, stella (ew..), cookie, oreo. Well anyway, my digi cam batteries are not exactly fully charged, so I can't take a pic of her yet. You'll just have to make do with a description of what Tammy looks like. Here goes: She's all white with a brown patch over her right eye. THAT IS ALL. No intricate spots/stripes/patterns. She's a very no frills pup, but yet intriguingly cute lah.
Why the sudden decision to get another pup, in addition to our mongrel, Lucky? It all began yesterday evening, when my brother started gushing about how cheap the rates are at Pasir Ris pet farms, and how cute the pups are. This naturally got my mum and I excited, being the dog-lovers that we are. One thing led to another and yah, we just decided there and then we were going to take a trip to that ulu place to pick a new companion for Lucky. Just like that. There were MANY pups there to choose from - my bro got headaches just deciding to choose one... and we hesitantly whittled down our choices to just 2 breeds - Maltese or Jack Russell Terrier (JRT) ... then my bro said, 'Lucky has a maltese's face. Boring. Let's get a JRT'. To which I replied, 'You'd better not regret it. JRTs are DAMN hyperactive (which we would later come to realise.)' There were 3 JRTs there, 1 female (that's Tammy), and 2 males. All were damn cute, but obviously we could only pick one. My brother was initially against the idea of getting a female pup, for reasons he refused to reveal. Yet he was aware that getting a male pup would equate to chaos back home... the male pup would surely fight with Lucky. So the decision was made to chooose the female one - the one with the patch over her eye.
Lucky's reaction towards Tammy was surprisingly lukewarm. I was expecting a Dog War or something, with all the yapping and screaming and scratching. But nope, to my surprise, nothing like that happened. Lucky merely growled at Tammy for a bit, being the territorial bully he is :), but after some death stares from me, he shut up and backed off. And he was incredibly jealous, which made me damn happy, because he always made the rest of the family excluding my mom jealous by tailing my mom around the house all day long and refusing to listen to our commands sometimes. If I knew dog speak, I would seriously retort to Lucky, 'Ha. Know how I feel now?!'
Anyhow, Tammy, being the true blue JRT that she is and having an incredibly playful nature, has adapted to her surroundings, lapping up all the attention that everyone's givving her. Unlike Lucky who was really quiet the first day we brought him back, she actually had the guts to PLAY with us. My god. She started nibbling on our fingers and jumping around. Barely a day and she treats the house like a playground. I can just envision chewed slippers and whatnot around the house in future. She's teething and just loves to chew. Anything but the chewtoy we gave her -_-. When she's quiet, she's like an angel. But when she starts to get attention seeking, she opens her precious little mouth and lets out something between a scream, a whine and a howl. Terrifyingly scary.
Tammy is a commitment that we just made yet again. I'm quite afraid now... was it a mistake to buy her? 'Cos we know that she being a girl and Lucky being a boy... and you know boy meets girl... and... I don't have to spell out the rest of the scenario. Anyway, we're off to a good start. Hopefully, she'll be easy to train, and not let out that scream-whine-howl again.
I'll post up the pic of BOTH of them TOGETHER if I ever get a chance. :) Cya.
