Baa Baa, Black Sheep
Spinning: Clazziquai - Dance
I feel so strange. It's like I never left a mark there. It's like I never existed there. I never left anything tangible, or more importantly, intangible during my stay there.
Damn; should have carved my name in a tree or something.
I'm talking about my old school. But never mind.
-------------------------------------
There was guitar concert, and I took a few pictures and videos. It was great, except that there were a few morons sitting behind me who just couldn't keep their comments to themselves. If you want to comment, at least do it softly.
There was a guest performing father and son duo who took my breath away with their fusion jazz-bossa performance. The latter, by the way, is only 9. I'll post up a video of them once I have the time. But you'll see what I mean when I said "took my breath away".
---------------------------------------
Driving today was comfortable. I managed to get through it without doing anything stupid for once (like adjusting the seat whilst the gear wasn't at neutral! Argh!). At least Uncle Foo (my instructor) didn't scream at me this time.
--------------------------------------
Today has been a very, very lazy Sunday. I stayed at home to recharge. It's times like these when I feel like holing up listening to great music all day without having to go out for anything.
I don't know if it happens to anyone of you, but there are times where you slip into a melancholic state. Not angry, not depressed, but melancholic. I feel like I'm in limbo, basically. And I don't even know the reason. Or perhaps I do, but I refuse to acknowledge it.
I took half a day off for tomorrow, or rather, today (seeing how it's past 12 am already) for my monthly visit to the orthodontist. If all goes well, it's going to be my 2nd last visit.
Which means... that I'm going to have those ugly metal brackets taken off by end June! YESSSSS.
Those who have worn braces before will share/know my pain. It's not exactly physical pain, though I know that in the beginning it was hell. My gums and teeth sort of numbed itself to the pain after a while though. So, it's not that.
Rather, it's the pain of looking at an Oreo biscuit, being tempted by it and not being able to eat it because it'd make you look like you had teeth decay all over the place. Or, not being able to bite into a whole apple because you knew that it'd rip off the wire if you weren't careful. For some it'd be trying to smile without exposing the braces, because, oh, you know, those brackets double up as great reflectors when a picture is snapped with the flash switched on. I didn't bother trying to do the last one though, because I got tired. My smile was frozen and felt like it was plastered on my face rather than being a genuine upturned smile. Where's the joy in that?
SO, if all goes well and assuming my orthodontist isn't a serial liar, I hope to be flashing my pearlies, unobstructed by any metal thingum, to everyone soon! Which will be what - the first time in 3.5 years!
Hm. Strangely, I think I will miss them quite a bit. Though I don't really want to be wearing them for the rest of my life. It's a love-hate relationship, you see.
It was only recently that I started to consider the idea of happiness being a state of mind that we have some control over.
I don’t know if it’s true, but I do know that escapism sometimes works, maybe not to keep ourselves happy; just to keep ourselves from falling into a deep abyss of despair.
We don’t always get the chance to tell it to someone. Or sometimes, that’s just not possible. Unimaginable.
No matter. I choose to be happy, or I hope I can choose to. Though sometimes I know I lapse into shitty moods.
Well, there's always a time and space for PMS, okay?

In other news yet again, I think I have amazing colleagues. Something happened at the office today - nothing particularly life-threatening - but it was just something that would test the attitudes of my co-workers. The situation was like massive fodder for an exchange of finger-pointing to take place. But nope, that didn't happen. No one pointed any fingers. We actually worked together to climb out of the stinking cesspit we had gotten ourselves into.
A far cry from other offices.
Bravo.
And, adios amigos! I'm hoping my Spanish Vocabulary is going to expand beyond that after I finish the course. Or even after I start it :)
Ah finally! I've got the time to actually feature one of my current favourite songs. Presenting The Cardigan's "Erase/Rewind", courtesy of YouTube.
In other news, work has been nondescript really, I've been doing the same things, sitting in the same place, using the same computer - the list goes on. Hours-wise the last week has been pretty all right, but my supervisor warned me to be prepared for next week, which will be OT-hell all over again. Oh dear.
You don't want to hear more about that, I'm sure. But one thing I need to say: I'm grateful, for all the friends I've ever met in my lifetime. People often say the greatest friends will come from our school days. I don't know how Varsity will be like, but I do know that I have met and made friends with amazing people from secondary school and college. When I'm working full time in a permanent job, I may meet great people, but there's always the possibility of meeting shitty colleagues (happens a lot of times). I don't know about others, but I'm hanging on to these friends as long as I can.
Don't ask me what prompted this sudden ... (I want to say Eulogy, but people often interpret it as a kind of written tribute for the deceased, totally ignoring its other meaning)... outpouring of gratitude. It's quite embarrassing, but I had to say it.
Good night, everyone, and Happy Mother's Day to all the Mothers in this universe. Especially mine. My mother is one of a kind, as I declared to 2 of my friends today :) Oh and, I sort of signed up for Spanish classes with those 2 friends. My pocket is bleeding, but I'm sure it's going to be worthwhile!
I'm so excited! I just changed the template again; this time its so clean and white, I can't stand it! Pristine!
I did this because I realized people using older OSes and older versions of IE/Firefox/whatever browser cannot see the comment link in the old blog. Plus, I revived the good ol' tagboard.
Spinning: The Cardigans - I Need Some Fine Wine, and You Need to be Nicer
Just came back not too long ago from a really enjoyable coffee session with the coffee kakis Rach and Elke. Spent that time catching up with them on wazzup in their lives, and various other interesting topics.
It took me much effort to grab the chance to use the computer at home, because nowadays the siblings have been hogging the computers, and have hinted in more ways than one that they "need more privacy". So I have to bugger off and go find something else to do. It's been really awkward sometimes, especially when their other halves are over in the house, because then they would be in their rooms. It'd be rude therefore to barge in and hang out with them, and not to mention plain uncomfortable. Unfortunately I share a room with one of the siblings so it's sometimes unavoidable. Guess that's another reason to encourage staying in the hostel at University. I don't mind sharing rooms, it's just that I sometimes feel so out of place and no place of my own to retreat to when there are guests. No wonder I've been dying to get out more.
Well I did mention that I 'bugger off and find something to do', and in doing so I've recultivated the habit of reading! I used to be a really avid reader in my childhood days, reading for at least an hour or 2 before I went to bed. That habit sort of died down in Secondary school, and in college my book collection was limited to, what, my Literature books? Very sad I know, for a Lit student. But it's not too late, I hope, to resume this ex-hobby of mine. I'm now reading the Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger, and it's a pretty OK read, save for the confusing vignettes that jump around A LOT. The book deals a lot with time travel (doh!), so at first I was trying so hard to make sense of things, but failing. Maybe it's because I'm conditioned to the fact that Time is one-way, and that it never travels backwards/too far forward. Then I quit trying to reason and make logic out of things, and the book became more entertaining.
Oh dear, I'm rambling. Its just that I have so much to say, but haven't got the time to structure this properly. Sigh. Guess I have to wait till I get a laptop before I can use it at my own whim.
