Anticipating
This is a live performance of the song "Hong Kong" by Gorillaz. I found this by accident in the Youtube community. Er, I was trying to search for some travel documentaries on Hong Kong, if you want to know what I was doing there again.
I'm absolutely thrilled and burning with anticipation, because in less than 12 hours' time I'm going to be in the airport waiting to check in with my huge but empty luggage. That won't come back in the same, empty state.
There's going to be loads of shopping, and of course I'm going to gorge myself silly on the food there. Can't wait for the 'yum cha' sessions and not to mention the DESSERT!
Video's 'Remind Me' by Royskopp, a Norwegian Electronica group. Normally, I am not a fan of Electronica. (Pure Electronica at least, because Sophie Ellis Bextor's music is part electronica also.) Which begs the question - why did I place this video in my blog? I was drawn to it for a few reasons.
I think the diagrams-within-diagrams thing is interesting.
On vocals is Erlend Oye, one half of my current favourite, the Kings of Convenience. (The other half is Eirik Glambek Boe. Norwegians have such interesting names!) I know, I've missed out those funny little dots Scandinavian names tend to have. Now maybe I should change my name to one which has those little dots above.
It has always been a dream - with added emphasis on the word 'dream' - of mine to be an animator/illustrator of such graphics you see in the video. Wishful thinking, obviously. Because I suck at Physics, and I think you need to have some knowledge of Physics to animate.
It reminds me of my life. When I was still working, of course.
The last point brings me to another topic. I've reverted to becoming an unemployed slob with nothing to do except scout for videos on Youtube. I resigned after a month and a few weeks of working, mainly because I am going overseas on holiday for the few months ahead and no boss likes a temporary employee to be going off and enjoying herself when she's supposed to be replacing those who are doing the same thing. Completely defeats the point of getting a temporary employee, don't you think?
In any case, the job has taught me a lot. Above all, it has given me a glimpse of the working world, and frankly, I'd like to stay away from it as long as I can. It's only been a month but I've already encountered the rude, the bitchy, and the plain 'bo chap' ones. Disclaimer: not all are from my organization. In a way, it's good because I learn to protect myself, and not be a doormat for them to step all over. A bit of a rant ahead, so skip it if you wish.
Less vaguely, most of my friends would've heard about the 'lift incident' from me already. I was rushing for the lift one morning and rather impulsively, I'd used my hand to prevent the lift doors from closing. The lift door was heavier than I thought, and to my horror it was closing in on my hand instead of opening up. Inside the lift were around 4-5 people, all working in a particular bank in my building, and none moved to press the 'door open' button. I wish I'd captured their expressions on video then, because the look on their faces virtually screamed 'Slap Me!'. And through the narrowing gap of the doors I could see, and HEAR, a man laughing at me. And so finally, my colleague jabbed the button from outside the lift, and the doors opened.
Right there and then I had to thicken my hide and enter the lift. I was bristling, and I was so ready to tear someone apart right there and then. Perhaps the laughing man had been watching too much of 'Happy Tree Friends'. But I wasn't ready to be sympathetic with him that day. He was still laughing when I stood beside him. So I shot him a glare. Much to my disgust, he started muffling his laughter with bouts of forced coughing. Then a lady, standing nearest to the lift controls, made a comment somewhere along the lines of, "... SHOULD WAIT FOR THE NEXT LIFT!" I didn't know I could be this confrontational, but I sort of sized her up for the entire journey. Come to think of it, that was crass of me and I regret it. But it did make her shrink back literally.
I remember this incident with clarity because it's one of the worst cases showing the apparent lack of graciousness in this society. Is pressing that button so difficult?
