Cookie Crumblin'
Spinning: Lily Allen - Everything's Just Wonderful Okay, I'm still hooked on that song. It's just annoyingly relatable right now - what with not being able to get a 'flat' because of 'bad credit'. She sings in a verse, "Do I feel all right/ No, not slightly / I want to get a flat, I know I can't afford it / ....(unapplicable portion)... / It's very funny ... / I know I won't get it just 'cos of my bad credit / Oh well I suppose I musn't grumble /I suppose that's just the way the cookie crumbles"
Oh dear. I wonder where I'm going to live during my University years. I've got no place to stay in! Heh. I guess I gotta thank Mabel for pulling out all the stops and helping me out this time. Thanks babe! I was feeling pretty down the last few days because of above mentioned issue (Why me? Am I that lousy? Am I really THAT unlucky? What's next? etc etc.), but a gastronomically sinful experience at Max Brenner's @Esplanade easily dissolved the un-happy-ness into nothing-ness. No pictures, though; sorry - I didn't bring my camera along. And even if I did, I'd be too busy tucking in to bother. Heh. Amazing chocolate. And as the site proclaims, "...all you have to do is ... love chocolate". And it's hard not to, because it's been proven that chocolate can lift your spirits. Everyone needs a shot of chocolate, everyday! And to facilitate future shuttling back and forth between hostel and home (I'm being optimistic here!), I bought a Sony Vaio - one of those lappies in the C-series. Style and functionality rolled into one. I like. It was a real bargain at $1799, with a free upgrade to 1GB RAM+other miscellaneous freebies. Muy Bien! And yes, that was another thing that eased the pain. Next up: SMASHINGLY INVIGORATING BADMINTON SESSION. Watch out, all ye who cross my shuttlecock's path! Moving on (I'm fine, everything's just wonderful)
Spinning: Lily Allen - Everything's Just Wonderful I'm not normally a fan of Allen's, but there's something inanely catchy about the abovementioned song. Maybe it's the happy-schnappy melody and chorus juxtaposed against the real content of the song. "It's just the way the cookie crumbles,", folks. That's the way it is and we're all empty shells drifting along the stupid sea of mindless trends. I love the way she croons "Oh yes, I'm fine. Everything's just wonderful; I'm having the time of my life." I can picture her singing that AND rolling her eyes at the same time. Or, having that pseudo- oh yeah, I'm OK, I'm all right look. OK. Enough about that. I'm in one of those cynical moods again. ----------------------- I went back to my alma mater to get my graduation certificate (booklet, more like). Everything was in place, except that little section where we were required to submit our own take on what we achieved over those 2 years in college. We sound like we really, really are very fond of curt sentences and single-sentence paragraphs. I thought they only did that in the newspapers. But that's just me being picky. No one really looks at that segment, ladies and gentlemen! The testimonial really made me sound like an ace student, though. That aside, I felt really out of place in my alma mater's school compound. Walking in dressed in home-clothes and slippers, the compound's diligent security guard promptly halted me and demanded to know what my business was in this school. "Ex-student," I replied. "All right. I trust you. Return this to me after you're done." "OK." He then handed me a little green tag labelled "Visitor". I stared at it for a bit; I think he got a little impatient when I stood there a minute too long looking at the tag and wondering what that implied of my identity in that school. Refusing to hang it around my neck, I went to get what I wanted to get from the administrative wing and walked out once I was done, handing the tag back to him. "Finished? Settled everything?" he asked. "Yeah." Again I stood there for a while, pondering the nuances behind his words. But I didn't dare stay too long, lest he would ask me what the heck I was doing, loitering in the compound. He probably didn't mean it, but he just showed me what my identity was, with regard to my alma mater. I'm no longer under its shelter; I'm a part of its history, it's past. Funny how fast things move. Dynamic, indeed. I think this was what I meant when I said I wished I'd left a mark in school.Oh yeah, it's just the way the cookie crumbles. Confidence for Quiet
Such stupidity. Why I beat myself up (metaphorically, d'oh!) over it, I don't know. I am different, and I shouldn't feel bad about it. I probably don't fit into society's stigmatized version of a teenager but I shouldn't feel like an alien, and neither should you.
Finally, I've come to terms with that. It took me way too long. What was I afraid of, really? The judgemental? Probably. I sometimes suspect that I suffer from multiple personality disorder. A part of me would chide myself about feeling so afraid and having unnecessary insecurities. It's exactly how it's portrayed in the cartoons. An cherub who knows what's good for you, telling you that "It's okay." and the little devil telling you that "It's not okay. CONFORM! CONFORM!", sitting on either side of your shoulders. But of course, if that's multiple personality disorder, then I think too many of us would be suffering from that.
Whatever it is, it sure feels lovely to be in my own skin.
Baby be brave. Labels: musings, random thoughts

Espanol!
Spanish class gets better with every lesson. What with the senorita pollo sitting on my right, and senorita de bailar on my left (I'm not sure if the names are grammatically correct in Spanish), and loco gente all around, I never fall asleep in the class. (I used to, whilst learning French. Everyone was too damn quiet.) We're lucky. Our Spanish teacher has gone beyond just spoon feeding us with vocabulary, grammar, and conjugation. The main element that keeps me awake is the high level of interactivity in the class. His questions always review what has been taught before, and he'll direct the questions to a specific person. That's why everybody's wide awake and keeping on their toes. Then - my favourite - there's the speed dating part. Or so I call it. Because what he does is to split us into groups to make conversation, and then rotate the people, over and over again. Sometimes, before we even finish the conversation, he rotates. It's quick and an effective refresher for the Spanish language. Muy bien! In other news, I have once again returned to the ranks of the unemployed! Yipee! It's languidness all over again as I wake up no earlier than 9, rot at home when I want to, hang out with friends when I want to, sleep when I want to, and do everything else I wanted to do in this long break - i.e. polish my guitar-playing, go on a mini photography expedition, read my incomplete books, and intensify the frequency of those driving lessons. Wahoo! No more dealing with the office bitch (Yes, there was one.), and no more dealing with hoity toity people. For now at least - I know there's more to come next time, but I'll deal with it when it comes. That said, working there was generally an eye-opening experience. Now that I've gotten a taste of what both the private and government sector is like, I think I have an idea of where I want to start in future. Labels: spanish, work

Crystal Ball
This is one of the things in my to-do list of the future. Nothing else can quite as effectively bring out the ecstatism - no, euphoria would be a better word - in me than it. A lot of people don't do it till they're old. There's nothing wrong with said case, but I think it's good to experience different cultures, see different things, and get out of our comfort zone a little earlier. THEN when we're old, we can look back and say, "Been there, done that. Maybe I'll do it again." Heh. Of course finances have to be strictly controlled. Time to start jangling my piggy bank; see how much I've saved. May update this post again with pictures. Or not. Labels: travel
