Spinning: Pavane - Gabriel Faure
The weeks have gone by in a flurry - it's going to be the June "Holidays" soon, if I can so call them. To be fair it might be a holiday for me for 10 days - I'm off to Italy then (with 27 other students). Before and after the trip though, it'll be major mugging for me. It's every student's typical nightmare. Studying for exams. Note I said STUDYING for Exams, because that is the actual pinch, not the exams themselves.
I did go out for a few days to enjoy myself before I decide to dive headlong into hours and hours of relentless mugging, though. I went for a coupla concerts - the TJ dance concert and the TJ Strings concert to be specific. Unfortunately no actual photos of the performance - only photos of the concertgoers aka me and some other people; which I'm sure people are sick of seeing, and which I'm too lazy to upload :P Let's see - the dance concert was pretty ok; I thought the 'cure for the itch' item was pretty good. I know this is coming SO SO late but great job Elke!
Strings concert was good; I liked that the auditorium was small enough such that the usual invisible barrier between the audience and performers was pretty much broken. And I have to say that my classmates YM, Sister and Rachel did great in their respective roles - YM and Sister as part of the string ensemble and Rachel as the guest soloist (oboe)! I also fell in love with Gabriel Faure's Pavane. Loved it long ago, but forgot the title AND the composer. The finale was a medley of classics which kept the audience laughing thanks to the strange familiarity that came upon us when the ensemble launched into the beginning of each new song. Unpredictable, too - when unexpectedly the players abandoned their bows and knocked their instruments, clapped their hands and tapped their feet to form some sort of 'stomp' (if that's how you spell it!) Apparently this was masterminded by Chelsea - an ex-classmate of mine. Well I say Singapore needs more of creative and witty individuals like her :)
Before the strings concert, I'd gone all over S'pore to snag great shopping deals along with shopping khakis ZH and XT (Mab was stuck kicking soccer balls in school. hehe.) Think IKEA, Queensway, City Plaza, Raffles City. The original plan was for ZH to buy her shoes - she did eventually; but I ended up buying more stuff than she did! Sigh. The dangers of going out with shopping queens like her and XT - you end up buying more than they do. They'd confessed, in fact, that they 'like seeing other people buy stuff'. I'm their new guinea pig, I guess.
OK, it's time to 'sleep, eat, and breathe Italiano' in the words of Mr E. Er, Arrivederci (goodbye) and Buonanotte (good night)!
