R.I.P.
2 days ago, a schoolmate I wasn't close to passed away. His funeral is going to be held in half an hour's time. I didn't know him personally, and vice versa. But I saw him many times in a friend's class - always being the proverbial class clown/rascal - and across the block I would hear my math teacher (also his math teacher) scream at him in mock anger. In the few times I popped by my friend's class, he'd always do something so... attention grabbing. I thought it was a case of hyperactiveness. I was wrong. It was just a facade he was putting up.
It's strange. I'm not close to him at all; I wouldn't even call him an acquaintance. But when he passed away, it did affect me. The way he died, and the string of achievements he held before he passed away made things even more tragic. If I'm feeling this way, I can't imagine how those who knew him, or were close to him, are feeling. That I am aware of his existence is enough to make me wake up.
The way we speak of him now, and when he was alive, is entirely different, as Cheryl has pointed out. I wonder, how he even found the guts to do it. He must've been suffering a lot...
Today we will think and say that we should cherish those around us more. For some this will fade away, for some this will endure through their lifetimes. It is upsetting, however, that it took such an event to wake us up.
To the person I never talked to but always saw, Rest In Peace.
