Originally uploaded by velvet_ice.I'm supposed to be studying for Econs, but I just came back from a wonderful BBQ, organized by Cheryl and co., made possible thanks to the people who turned up, and those who went to Xuanyi's to help out with the preparation of the food. Yup, so my Econs notes can just rot in a corner for now while I blog about the eventful day I've had.
We'd planned the BBQ for several weeks already, with it initially scheduled to be on 16th April, but later postponed to the 23rd because most of us couldn't really make it on the 16th. We planned the venue, the stuff we were going to eat, basically it was all done in advance so nothing cropped up along the way. It's one of the better squad outing we've had, and I guess this comes with experience because most of the bbqs we'd had last time weren't really that good.
Most of the peeps turned up, save for some people who told us last minute that they couldn't come. The people whom we expected to NOT turn up really lived up to our expectations, but it's not as if I really care.
Started the day playing bridge. When I reached Xuanyi's place, I dunno - I had this peaceful, serene feeling. My squadmates are like my 2nd family... it sounds DAMN pretentious, but honestly, after 4 months of being apart from each other, it was a good thing that I was able to see them again. I could talk freely, I didn't need to think through what I said that much, I could be MYSELF, basically. It's not that I'm not myself when I'm with others, it's just that my personality isn't really that distinct when I'm with others. That's why people who don't know me say I'm quiet. It's not true.
It felt good to joke around with the people without any qualms. I knew their temperaments - I knew when to stop - I knew when to carry it on. With them there's no pretence. None. That's how comfortable I feel with them. I wouldn't say it's completely true for the relationship between the guys and girls, yet I would say it is for the girls. I can't speak for the guys, but I can see that they definitely have that bond between them. As for the girls and guys, we get along fine.
The peeps who came earlier to help out cooked some staples - Spaghetti and Baked Rice. The Spaghetti was great... and the baked rice just tasted weird.. haha. Hardened cheese tastes like chicken - I just found that out. Girls were bbqing at first... then the guys took over later on. I must say 'Chio' and JS were very helpful this time around. :)
We caught up with each other regarding our lives in JC (yet again. There's never enough time to finish catching up) and gossiped, speculated and poked fun at each other. Talked about a few serious issues with some people, then later on went to have some fun playing 'PIG' and Bridge... freaking funny games. Later went on to play Indian Poker ... stuck the cards on our heads like idiots. We must have looked like idiots - I saw the other family bbqing staring at us.
The BBQ was, I'd say, a relatively good one. Quite memorable, - it's actually the people you hang out with... not really the BBQ itself. The BBQ was just an excuse to get together again.
Remembered to bring my cam today, and snapped some quirky photos that the SJ peeps might enjoy :D ha. I feel really blur now - probably the euphoria of the BBQ still hanging in the air.
Yet - I felt empty when we split up to go home in the end. It only served as a reminder that we were no longer together as a squad.... it was a painful reminder - something I don't want to remember but am forced to. It was just 3 hours of fun and laughter - moments you'd want to relive. But as the chinese always say, 'Tian Xia Wu Bu San Zhi Yan Xi..' which is to say, there's no good gathering which will not split up eventually. Just 3 hours together, then poof. Everyone returns to their separate lives. I hate it. And I certainly hope it's not going to continue this way. I want it to stop when our school life stops.
Anyway, I promised the SJ Peeps to post up photos of the BBQ ... so yeah. enjoy.
