You know how some people proclaim that one of their favourite activities is sleeping? Well, I understand why. For me sleeping's not just about recuperating and recovering energy. Let me explain.
When I was young I'd read a little tale about how dreams come about. Of course this theory doesn't have any scientific basis, but that will come in later. Anyway, the story goes that a little man (ok, a dwarf/gnome/halfling) is sent by the heavens above to visit children and sprinkle some sleep-sand on the children, and to determine if the child would dream or not, the Sandman would open an umbrella of his choice:- if it was black, the child would have a dreamless night. If however it was the other umbrella that he had (i.e. full of moons and stars, you get the picture), the child would have plenty of dreams that night. Well I guess I've got Mr Sandman to thank because I've PLENTY of weird dreams (although I fail to remember them sometimes).
And if you ask me why I love dreaming (in sleep, not day-dreaming), it's because more than half the time in my dreams, I'm doing something impactful - something that affects. Strangely, some of my dreams are like movies, playing out right in front of me - comprising only other characters who may be people I know, or who may just be strangers. I sometimes wonder if these people (whom I've never seen before except in my dream) actually exist. I can tell you that it's pretty fun being an observer at the sidelines, watching the drama unfold before you. And ridiculous things happen - things you'd never encounter in real life - such that when I see the person involved for real, I can't help but laugh secretly.
These days though I've been trying to get myself to dream about certain things, but I couldn't for the life of me do it. Apparently though, there's a solution - here's where all the scientific stuff come in. A company in Japan has invented a sort of 'dream machine' (
read more here). If you check the article, they say that "Prospective dreamers are asked to look at a photo of what they would like to dream about", so about what they say about pinning up your idol's poster on your ceiling so you can dream of him/her - it has some basis after all.
Meanwhile, I can stop dreaming and go back to the books. The only thing keeping me going now is the fact that it's the last paper (FINALLY!) of the prelims. After this though, we'll all go into a cycle of studying yet again. Gah.

If only we can dream about the subjects and the notes. Then we can save on the studying!!! HAahahhahaa.
it is true that sleeping everones favourite habit and hobby.
but i completely loaths those imbeciles, who when asked for the first time upon meeting (as you want to get to know them better) procliam that it is sleeping.
And then if on MSN they just stagnate till they are prompted another question.
I mean hello? Why do i have to make the initiative to talk to you? and you are definately not helping when you mention sleeping. i mean, what the hell am i suppose to say about that?
utterly ridiculous. at least say clubbing or something. and then elaborate, like you have thankfully done. i mean everyone, and i mean everyone hates one word answers.
i mean, how would one like it if i commented on your comment box :yes? one clicks and waits for the box to load just to see a pathetically miserable: yes.
But thats not you. I am just releasing some anger. I apologise for doing it on your blog, but i mean you are the only one who writes about sleeping.
so lah de dah.
tralalala
That's ok yes I'm probably the only one who talks about sleeping, and looking at your long comment I guess you were itching to say something about your pet peeve.
But yeah, I know. If someone were to tell me their fave activity was sleeping fullstop, it probably signals that
a) they don't want to talk to me, that lazy piece of s***! or
b) they really are bums who don't have a life.
So take a chance and ask if they do the following, it may well become a proper conversation albeit a stupid one:
1) Drool?
2) Dream?
3) Fall off the bed?
4) and "Which side of the bed do you get up on?"
Well, stupid answers call for stupid questions, and nothing satisfies me more than giving someone a taste of his own medicine.
Yokey
hahah i do agree. I would ask them the series of questions.
of course expectations dictate that their answer would be something along the lines of -_- or ???. I mean, how articulate did i expect them to be when they answer sleeping as their hobby anyway?
but yup, usually i like to simply close the window and cease contact with them.
of course usually they do not go on talking, which shows just how much interest they have in talking to you. in the first place, why add me to MSN then? utterly ridiculous.
after a few considerations i take a step further and usually block and delete them.
Not like they would care. Thank god this only happened to me twice.it would be a big dent in my ego were it to happen all the time.
NO NO NO! WRONG! We'll all GAME till the cows come home BEFORE we go into a cycle of studying yet again..
saaaavvvvy? ;)
I always sleep on my left side, and my legs are always slightly curled up - not foetal, but just slightly curled up, if you care to know.
But even if you don't, I'm still telling you.
Isaac> Believe it or not, some people add others to their contact list because they want to look popular. Which is why I say they don't have a life. But, oh wow, what a wonderful way to increase how likeable you are, NOT.
Amanda> Sigh. I think the cows have come home.
YM> OK, I don't exactly go around asking people which side they sleep on. Heh.
But anyway, I sleep on either the right or left, and yes my legs curl up slightly as well. If what I read somewhere was correct, sleeping on the stomach, or facing upwards, brings bad dreams or no dreams at all. So to bring more dreams, I sleep on my sides.
