Spinning: Jamiroquai - Corner of the Earth
I saw the carnage that Death left behind yesterday. Strong people collapsing in crumpled heaps of agony and sorrow; quiet tears of regret. And it always takes something like that to jolt me back to reality.
Our minds and hearts are stronger than we really think. It's strange how people are so broken when they see death right in front of them, but for a moment after that, it's as if their minds and hearts have constructed defensive barricades. They are seemingly calm, as if they have accepted the reality of it all. They are steady enough to carry out whatever procedures necessary to mark the departure of someone from this world, stable enough to carry on with their daily lives, but then after that, the pangs of pain that will strike the bereaved's loved ones are swift and intermittent. The realization, the reality that the person is never going to be around forever. It's an all too painful reminder about how fleeting human life really is at the end of the day, like a mere flame that is extinguished easily. What would remain after that?
I attended an aunt's wake today, but it was not until I reached home and started revising for my remaining papers that I felt a strange feeling. A memory of my aunt - how she looked like when she was not so sick yet. And then, the realization that I would never see her in the flesh again. How long till I forget that image of her?
My heart goes out to her children, who are obviously trying to stay strong through it all. Rest in peace, aunt.
