hachi, hachi, hachiko.
Spinning:
3.40 a.m.! I might as well not sleep now. Just got back from a movie + supper at good ol' Simpang. Elks and I watched Hachiko, and till now my eyes still feel swollen from the crying. Gee. I never cried this much in a movie since... I don't know when. Probably never before actually. It was the kind of crying which involves the whole works, lots of unglamourous mucus dripping, pain-behind-the-eyeballs, salty tears streaking the face type. And not to forget the reddish eyes. I'm usually very adamant about not crying in the cinema 'cos it's just a very messy affair haha, and very paiseh to boot. But throughout this movie I was fighting back the tears quite fiercely and in the end at a certain scene it all flowedddd. Yes, it was that tear-jerking. I only shed a few tears in my sister's keeper, and Up, laughing in amusement at Pamela who was basically crying a river during those shows :P I just can't imagine how she'd be for Hachiko! Probably running to the toilet halfway.
Tears aside, I liked Hachiko. It's a very simple story revolving around a very simple concept - unconditional love. That it was able to stir so many emotions within me and - judging from the many sniffles around me and the dab-dab-dabbing of tissues on faces and noses - the audience, kinda surprises me actually. I think it has evoked the rawest, most honest feelings from me thus far. Maybe it's cos the story revolves around a dog, and I don't know, all traces of skepticism just vanishes. Anyway! Watch it people, and prepare lots of tissues. I thought Rachel was exaggerating when she said that. Turns out the tissues came in really handy.
Then came supper at SIMPANGGG. Loveitloveitloveit! :) It's nice to be able to catch up with friends. Labels: movies, recommendations

a little bit of everything
Spinning: Starfield - Unashamed
I'm taking a break from the excel spreadsheets that face me, though I gotta slug it out with them again later. I just found out today that I got a C+ for accounting. Frankly, I'm not surprised; I kinda anticipated it because I didn't study some chapters. But even with the anticipation, it was still a downer. . . . On a brighter note! I was doing some work on the laptop on Friday when suddenly, I receive a call in the middle of the night. Middle of the night calls freak me out like hell because you never know; it could swing two ways - it could be good news or bad news - I've received both before. But it turned out to be Elke, and she told me, quite anxiously, that she had made the boo-boo of buying movie tickets online for a 1.50 a.m. movie that very night (or morning), instead of the 1.50 p.m. slot the following afternoon! So she asked me to go with her, or else the tickets would go to waste. So we call along TPP who, obviously, hadn't slept yet.
And that was how I ended up watching My Sister's Keeper (or My Sister's Helper according to TPP HAHA!) at 1.50 a.m. Elks, TPP and I hopped into Sophie Swift, vroomed to Park Mall only to find the stupid carpark closed, and vroomed again to the Cathay which has a most confusing carpark layout. Anyhow, My Sister's Keeper - quite a heart wrenching tale about love and loss. A certain TPP was overflowing with emotions and tears; she makes me feel like a robot.
Like Elke says, that wasn't the most eventful thing of the day though. After the movie we headed down to Geylang (near Elk's place) to eat some dimsum for supper; it is the most awesome dimsum place I tell you. And it helps that it's always abuzz with activity - so that means there's always a chance to people-watch. And people-watch we did; there were all types of people there. In one night, we saw... a band decked in black, various other tattoo-ed characters, and the most amusing of all, a band of prostitutes whom I suspect are not locals. They stumbled in, cakey make-up, outrageous eye-shadow and all, quite visibly drunk. This particular lady had her arms around 2 other ladies, and she was teetering, on the verge of falling onto Elke and TPP. Minutes later, a bunch of middle-aged men followed through, I suspect they were local, and started their hooligan-ish antics. Lots of touching, staring, and basically being idiots. Urgh, I still have that mental image of this particular guy who was draping himself over a girl.
But it was interesting. :) The most spontaneous thing I've done since... exchange?! . . . . . Every day, I lose a little more faith - I am not talking about God, I am talking about people. This is why I rarely let my emotions get the better of me, it's dangerous. I suppose mystery is always enticing, but once the veil is lifted, that's it. Labels: friends, movies, musings, school

...It's Over!!!
And so the adventure begins... then again, maybe not. Heh. Post exam enjoyment to me is just revelling in the simple things we don't get to do when we're buried in loads of work. I sort of take those things for granted when I'm not busy, then when exam period rolls around, every single moment spent doing something I like/something relaxing is cherished like no other. Simple things like taking the time to read newspapers from front to back, heh.
Apart from all the minor errands to run to make the exchange to Sweden a reality and apart from helping out with the preparations leading up to my sister's wedding, I really wanna...
- Read my books! I still have Sophie's World and Veronika Decides to Die (just purchased today!) to finish.
- Watch more movies. I keep meaning to watch them but end up missing them 'cos of school
- Start exercising. Not to lose weight, but to stay healthy. I feel breathless nowadays just climbing 2 flights of stairs. Tsk. Unbecoming!
- Do a local-food-only sabbatical thing before I fly off. I may not feel it now, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to miss the local food! Laksa, Chicken Rice, Char Kway Teow, Fried Oyster Omelette, aghhhh I'm going to miss you guys!
- Shop. But within boundaries. Haha, I don't want to blow my pocket on unneccessary things; but I still have some things I want to get but didn't have the time to.
------------------------------------
Went out with Zhu, Mabs and XT finally, after what seemed like the longest time since we last met. Even the food vouchers we received the last time we met had expired by the time we got together to hang out again. We went to catch Cape No. 7 in the cinemas.
I sort of went in with no expectations, as I usually do for movies I don't especially anticipate. I'm lazy to talk about all of it, but I'm just going to say that it was a pretty good movie; maybe not blow-your-socks-off good but it was enjoyable, and that's all that matters really whenever you're tired out from the exams and you just want to be entertained after all that inane mugging. It was very disjointed in the beginning, because basically the movie was interspersing one storyline with another, and it was hard to reconcile both storylines and figure out how they related to each other (and why the scriptwriters chose to intertwine this story with that etc), and maybe my brain was a little bit too tired to figure out why by then.
The 2 hours of sleep yesterday night, coupled with a total near panic attack when my helpsheet MSword document for the Econs paper I had the next day totally failed on me at the last minute was obviously taking effect on me. I swear my blood almost curdled when I tried to paste something in the MS doc and the whole of my 2nd page disappeared. I was trying frantically to retrieve it but all it showed when re-opened was sequences of the same row, all over and over again. Scary. It wasn't funny 'cos it was 4a.m. by then, about 5 hours to the start of the exam!? But good ol' Google spat out some help when I searched for the solutions to a corrupt MSword document. Turns out, it's a very, very easy process. If you guys corrupt your file inadvertently, don't despair and don't trash it out of frustration just yet! Just save it -yes, save the corrupt file (click save as)- in a .rtf format (rich text format), close, reopen the rtf file you just saved, and click save as, then save it in .doc format again. VOILA! Your corrupt file recovered =)
I'm sorry I'm rambling, I'm just going on and on in streams of consciousness and I'm just rattling the things off the top off my head now.
All right, time to sleep. At least 8 hours this time around. I'm gonna sleep like a baby.
